Interim Joint Matriculation Board (I.J.M.B) is a programme moderated by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. It is a programme that enables students gain direct admission into 200level without Joint Admission Matriculation Board (J.A.M.B) examination.
I’ll not be wrong to say I.J.M.B was designed to ameliorate problems of admission for candidates seeking admission into Nigeria University instead of JAMB.The examination was formerly conducted in May in designated Polytechnics and colleges Of Education, while the results was released by August. But guess what? Things have gone better. The examination for IJMB is now february every year.
One of the major reasons it’s better this way is because candidates do not need to be scared of direct entry form closing soon. Another reason is that the result comes earlier than usual. This will enable students to know their points on time and therefore choose universities and courses that will guarantee them admission prior to July when various schools will begin POST U.T.M.E

JAMB Aspirants should Not ChooseUnauthorized Courses In Specialized Varsities Says FG

The 2017 UTME registration is expected to commence soon. Already, many candidates are
eagerly waiting for the announcement.
However, only a few have taken time to decide on the course of study to apply for.
In deciding a course of study, there are few things you should bear in mind;
Firstly, you need to consider if you have interest or academic aptitude for the course you wish to apply for Another is, to verify if the course you
intend to study is offered in the institution you are applying to.
You are also to verify the accreditation status of that course in such institution if not you will just waste your time studying the course.
Most importantly, you need to verify if you meet the O’level and UTME Subjects requirements for that particular course.
Each course of study has a specific O’level and UTME Subjects requirements you must meet
before you are admitted to study that course.
What works for an Engineering course doesn't work for a medical course.
Many UTME Candidates often make the mistake of choosing a course that they do not meet the requirements for during UTME registration.
Thereby disqualifying themselves of admission from the onset.
No school can admit you to
study a course you do not have the
requirements.
Even if your name appears on the admission list, you will be disqualified during the screening,
verification or clearance process for that course you may be given another course which you may not have interest in.
Like I mentioned earlier, the UTME registration for 2017 is yet to commence.
If I were you, this is the time I would use to make the decision concerning which course of study to choose and institution before registration commence.
If you have any question use the comment box below.

JAMB Aspirants should Not ChooseUnauthorized Courses In Specialized Varsities Says FG

Federal Government of Nigeria has directed the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to delete all specialized courses or
programmes being offered by universities of technologies and universities of agriculture from its portal.
The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu who gave the directive in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by JAMB’s Head of
Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin also directed these specialized universities to stick to their core mandates which they were set up to carry and desist from running programmes which had no bearing to their foundation.
The government, which stated that it had observed that some of these universities of agriculture and technology had derailed from its
responsibilities by running some of the programmes they are not created for, warned candidates billed to seat for this year’s unified
tertiary matriculation examination (UTME not to be deceived into choosing such programmes as
they are illegal and are not provided for in the brochure.
The statement reads: “Government notes the unfortunate situation were Universities of Agriculture offer programmes in Law,Management courses such as Accounting,
Banking and Finance, Business Adminsitration among others.
As if that was not enough some
institutions change the nomenclature of some of
the courses to read for instance Banking and Finance, Engineering, Accounting Technology, among
other names. This is an aberration and should be stopped with immediate effect.
“Specialized Universities are University set up to pursue specific courses/ programmes to steer
the need of manpower in a particular sector of the economy. Some of these specialized institutions include Universities such as Universities of Agriculture, Universities of Technologies, Universities of Medicine, amongst others.
The Federal government has observed that these institutions have derailed from their statutory responsibility thereby running
programmes that are antithetical to their mandates.
“In view of this ugly development, the Hon Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, has directed the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board to delete all such courses on
its portal and all candidates desirous of sitting for the 2017 Universities Tertiary Matriculations Examination are advised not to be hoodwinked
into such programmes as they are illegal and are not provided for in our brochure.”
Meanwhile, JAMB said it has not started the sale of 2017 UTME forms as it is being alleged.
The board, which urged candidates to exercise patience, said the delay in selling the form is due to its desire to reduce the challenges associated
with the conduct of the examination.
“Again the Board will want to state that it has not commenced the sales of the 2017 UTME application documents. Candidates are urged to
exercise patience as JAMB is putting final preparations towards commencing the sales.
“The delay has been occasioned by the Board’s desire to reduce to the barest minimum challenges associated with the conduct of the
Board’s examination. However, in the final analysis, Nigerians should note that admissions will be conducted within the stipulated dateline.
“In view of the above, candidates and parents are advised not to pay money to any agent, bank for any registration as JAMB has not and will not appoint any agent. Soon, we will commence the sales and the Board will make elaborate
announcement with jingles to ensure that the public is well informed of the commencement of sales.
Our earnest attempt is to come near
perfection in the conduct of the next
examination and we plead with the public to support the Board’s effort in ensuring that the Nigerian candidate gets the best,” the statement added.

IAUE TO COMMENCE B.A, B.SC, DEGREE PROGRAMMES

The National Universities Commission ( NUC) has given approval to Ignatius Ajuru University of Education to commence Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele who disclosed this during an emergency Senate Meeting, said that the Commission in principle granted the university request for expansion and restructuring of programmes.
He observed that since the establishment of the university, concentration had only been on
developing Education which is one aspect of the core mandate of the university with little or no attention paid to the non- education based
related disciplines as provided by the Law and appropriate for a university of the highest standing.
To this end, forms are already on sale at the Admission's Office at the Rumuolumeni main campus for admission into a one year Basic
Studies Programme for the 2016/2017 academic session.
Upon completion of the programme,
qualified candidates would be admitted as year one Students into the B.A, B.Sc, B.Tech.
B.Agric, B.Ed, programmes of the university.
Professor Ndimele informed members of Senate that remedial work at the Students Hostels in all
the campuses would soon be completed for Students to move in and that the Department of
Home Economics and Hotel Management have been commissioned to design with the university logo and colours bed sheets, pillow cases, window blinds, towels, Buckets etc that the
Students would move into the renovated hostels with.
The Home Economics and Hotel
Management department is also to run a decent and befitting Restaurant for Staff.
In addition to all these, he said that the Paint Factory building project has started along with the Poultry, Fisheries, Mushroom etc pilot
scheme farming geared towards internal revenue generation under Edu Consult, the registered
Company of the university.
The Chief Executive implored the Consultancy Unit to liaise with multinationals and other oil
companies and corporate bodies to fund research as external revenue generation efforts for the university.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed displeasure with the rumored school fees increase and wondered
where the Students got such information from especially as the Senate never discussed school
fees increase at the last meeting.
With the unresolved issue of non payment of electricity bills by the university as alleged by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria ( PHCN),
Professor Ndimele regretted that some Staff could think of stealing diesel, a move capable of putting the university in total darkness.
He condemned the deliberate act of sabotage by the perpetrators and warned staff to desist from such negative tendencies as it would no longer be condoned.

ASUU Sanctioned UNILORIN For Lawlessness

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has sanctioned University of Ilorin (Unilorin) and directed its members to boycott academic and allied activities at the
school.
ASUU wielded the big stick following what it described as “Unilorin management’s persistent lawless, arbitrariness, violation of human and trade union rights and persecution
of loyal members”.
No academic staff of the university will be allowed to carry out any academic activity in any other university.
This was part of resolutions reached at the end of its National Executive Council meeting in Awka.
A copy of the sanctions was made
available to reporters in Ibadan by Chairman of the University of Ibadan Chapter, Dr Deji Omole.
The union noted that despite efforts at resolving the crisis in the institution, the management and its sponsored groups were fuelling the crisis, alleging that it forcefully
deducts check-off dues without remitting same to the national body.
Omole added that the union also directed its members to boycott all Unilorin-based journals, quarterlies, newsletters, while articles from academic staff of the university
will not be accepted by journals for peer review and/or publication in other universities.
He said: “Despite ASUU’s intervention, since 2001, the University of Ilorin administration
has persisted in acts of lawlessness,
arbitrariness, violation of human and trade union rights, and persecution of loyal members.
“Contrary to the law and despite the ruling of the National Industrial Court, the university has continued to prevent ASUU from functioning on its campus.
It has also continued to forcefully collect check-off money from its academic staff without remitting it to the union.
“The union is, therefore, bound to protect the principles of democracy and the exercise of freedom in the academia, and also insist on
the right to function through its own
accredited representatives.
“NEC, at its meeting at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, recognised distinct groups that have emerged in creating and prolonging the crisis at unilorin.
“For the avoidance of doubt, academic staff of the university shall not participate in any academic activities of other public
universities and vice versa.
“All members of the union, including those serving in private universities during the period of the sanction, shall comply,” he added.

6 Things Every Newly Admitted Students To Know Before Resumption

It is not just about gaining admission, it's about being focused, doing well academically and
graduating with good grades.
It has been discovered that most students, once offered admission tend to forget the reason they are in school, they allow themselves to be carried away with frivolities that is associated with the campus
environment.
If you are a fresher, then this could help your successful stay in school.
1. Firstly, do not see going to school as an opportunity to leave the house or freedom to do whatever you wish, you will end up allowing only
the school to pass through you or maybe withdrawing from school as a result of too many carryovers or expulsion.
2. Once you get to school, try to identify the school/department's DO's and DON'Ts, with that, you will be able to abide by the rules and
regulations to avoid any form of penalty.
3.Do your best to undergo the screening process as soon as possible to avoid missing classes in the cause of trying to be screened.
4. As a fresher, you have the opportunity to choose the kind of friends to hang around with, the friends you make has roles to play in your academic performance and your life generally,so choose your friends wisely.
5. You will be invited to several parties which might be holding in or outside the school, you can attend the relevant once but do not allow it
to become a habit or a form of distraction.
6. Lastly, try to know the names of your lecturers and the courses they teach, attend all classes, make sure you listen attentively during a lecture, ask questions where you are
confused, do all assignments/practicals, buy all textbooks if necessary, go through what you
were taught each day and you will see yourself needing little or no efforts preparing for an exam.
Wish you all the best

6 Helpful Tips To Score Up To 300 In 2017 JAMB Exam

The 2016 admissions were filled with
confusion and controversy as the Minister of Education Adamu Adamu brought about various changes in the process, ranging from the cancellation of the Post UTME to the
changing of the process of screening students by JAMB.
The 2017 UTME also has one major change already, there will be no sales of JAMB scratch cards which have been used for registration in the past years.
JAMB registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede,, said this was to make it easier for those with financial problems to register.
“Students will generate a PIN number for themselves from their phone or computers before registering for examinations,” he said.
Here are 6 tips to help students do very well in the JAMB Computer Based Test (CBT),examinations:
1. Download the practice software
Early preparation is key to doing very well in any area of life. The JAMB CBT is not an exception. Even though the registration has not begun, you can start practicing now.
Since it will be the first experience some students will have with any computer based assessment, downloading the JAMB CBT
practice software is one very important step to take.
CBT practice software
The practice software is easily available online and can be easily accessed via mobile phone
or a computer. Candidates are encouraged to download and use for practice to get themselves very prepared for the examination.
Download the practise software here
2. Registration
Since the news broke that scratch cards will not be used for registration in 2017, many students have been worried as to the likely problems that might be attached to generating
pins on their own.
It is important for candidates that they keep in touch and up to date on news in connection with the registration process, so as not to
miss out on any update. Most students start to fail once there are mistakes in their registration.
3. Use the syllabus
Many students do not use the provided JAMB syllabus while preparing for the examinations
and this is one reason why the questions might sometimes look strange. Each year,JAMB releases a complete syllabus to help students. It is important that you use this.
Once you determine your subject combination, based on your intended course of study, you should download the syllabus and use it to
guide your reading. It is important that you ensure you finish the entire syllabus, every single topic listed there should be studied thoroughly.
The rest of the tips come in handy when you are set to write your examination:

4. Know your CBT screen
At this point, we assume that you have practiced sufficiently, using the practice software. Here is a sample of how the CBT screen looks normally, unless there are any
upgrades in 2017,
5. Time management
Another vital issue is the issue of time. Usually there are 250 questions to be answered in 2hrs 45 mins, so you do not have a lot of time.
It is important that you learn how to manage the time you are given. One way to do this is to divide the entire time you are given , so you know the amount of time to allot to each
question.
Move quickly, note that it is possible to click on omit and come back later to answer any difficult questions. Always keep your eye on the timers, to know how much time you have left.
6. Cross Check
It is important to avoid overconfidence.Overconfidence kills, so even after you have answered, you should go through your answers
again. Be careful when doing this however as a slip of the mouse can cause you to change answers.
Check that you have done all that is required before you click submit.
