Meet AAUA Student Who Shine At Law School

The Faculty of Law, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, is fast establishing itself as first among equals going by the regular feats of its graduates at the
Nigerian Law School in recent years.

One of its students, Miss Falade Faith Olayinka, has hit the headlines by bagging a First Class Honours in the 2015/2016 Bar Part II final exams.

This heartwarming development
follows on the heels of the outstanding performances of graduates of Ajasin Varsity at last year’s Law School exams where two AAUA graduates,Opeyemi Akeem Longe and Ebunoluwa Bamigboye, were feted and celebrated by the
University’s Management for
their outstanding results at the
Bar Final examinations.

Longe, who was the first student
to bag First Class in Law at AAUA in the institution’s 16-year history, also bagged a First.Class and emerged the best nationally at the Law School for that year.

According to a memo to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun, from the Dean of Law,Prof E. A. Taiwo, a good number of the products from the University’s Faculty of Law performed exceptionally well at the recently concluded Bar Part II final exams.

In the memo announcing the students’ exceptional feat, Prof.
Taiwo, said, “Quite a number of
our products finished with very
good grades and Miss Falade Faith Olayinka’s performance was outstanding as she finished with First Class Honours.

“Miss Falade graduated in her Bachelor of Law (LL.B) degree
from the University during the
2014/2015 academic session with second class (UppernDivision).

She was the third best graduating student in her set with CGPA of 4.34. Miss Falade’s performance has made the Faculty and the University
proud.”

AAUA Siwes Duration Extended For Adequate Supervison

Adekunle Ajasin University,Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, has extended the duration for this year’s Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme, SIWES, for its students by five weeks.
The Director of SIWES, Dr. Olanrewaju Olotuah confirmed
the development to the Information Unit of the University on Wednesday last week.
The exercise, which was to end on November 7, 2016, has been extended to December 12, 2016
as a result of the recent suspension of academic activities in the University by its academic staff and to ensure adequate supervision of the students.
Dr. Olotuah said, “The need to
supervise AAUA students currently observing their internship has prompted the University Management to extend the SIWES completion date.
The completion date has been shifted from November 7 to December 12, 2016 which
makes a summary of 24 weeks
altogether.
“The decision was made to give
room for proper supervision of
our students observing their
internship.
As we all know, the previous Academic Calendar has been affected by the recent Industrial action of the Academic members of the Institution, which also affected
our students’ SIWES supervision.”
He advised the participating students to be committed to their work as supervising officers could visit them without a prior notice.

JAMB Beseech Tertiary Institution To Decide Cut Off Marks

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar Is-haq Oloyede yesterday
stressed the need to allow tertiary institutions to decide their cut-off marks.
He argued that a situation where universities, polytechnics and colleges of education are subjected to the same cut-off marks was no
longer tenable because it prevents the institutions from admitting candidates of their choice.
Prof. Oloyede, in a statement issued in Abuja yesterday by its Head of Information, Dr.Fabian Benjamin, noted that institutions should
be allowed to determine the kind of candidates they want to admit.
“The uniformity of cut-of marks doesn’t make any sense when colleges and polytechnics admit for National Certificate of Education
(NCE) and diplomas while universities admit for degrees yet we subject them to the same
cut-off marks, thereby starving these tier of institutions from admitting candidates, who if
not engage may likely become easy prey to social vices.
“This means that if a university want 250 as minimum cut-off marks, why not and if another want less so is it.
If a polytechnic like Yaba Tech wants 250 as cut-off marks, let
them admit and if Gboko Polytechnic in Benue State, where I come from want less than 200,
let them admit.
“Institutions should be known for their individual quality and not collective standard.
This will foster positive competition for the overall good of our tertiary institutions,” he said in the statement.
He expressed worry over the class
opportunities as it affects the distribution of admission resources.
Prof. Oloyede said he was deeply concerned over the fact that most policies were geared towards accommodating the interest of the
elite only and leaving the children of the poor to suffer unjustly.
He said: “The rich have multiple opportunities which include going abroad for studies while the poor only have the opportunity of
struggling for the scarce spaces here.
